The Two Selves by Brittany Markert

Brittany is a self-taught photographer and printmaker and specialises in traditional black and white darkroom photography.
In the winter of 2011, she began her first project, In Rooms. Since 2014 it has taken form as an ongoing narrative documenting a surreal adaptation of her most vibrant thoughts, memories, and dreams.
Brittany Markert lives in Brooklyn and In-Rooms, her current photography
project, utilizes the confined and often anonymous space of a room to spotlight
the emotional and surreal aspects of the human experience. Growing up, she
had a fascination with abandoned buildings and hotel rooms, intrigued by the
mysterious histories and the various characters that had once occupied it.
Her portraits and narratives similarly channel the history of emotion and
multitude of personalities that exists within each of her subjects.
