Fey is best known for her work on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live (1998-2006), for her impression of former Alaska Governor and 2008 Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, and for creating acclaimed series 30 Rock (2006–2013) and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015–present). Annie Leibovitz photographed John Lennon on the day he was assassinated, and her work was used on two record albums by Joan Armatrading and one of Boz Scaggs. She is the only woman to have held an exhibition at London’s National Portrait Gallery.
Leibovitz is much influenced by Richard Avedon, and his ‘personal reportage’, developing close rapport with her subjects.
Leibovitz had a close relationship with writer and essayist Susan Sontag from 1989 until Sontag’s death in 2004. During Sontag’s lifetime, neither woman publicly disclosed whether the relationship was a platonic friendship or romantic. (Read more)
